Rome wrote:Oh, hey, another important question:
Playoffs! Consolation brackets happen during the same time frame, but may be shifted back one week depending on number. Here's yahoo's page on it: Here
4, 6, or 8?
4 - Division Winners + 2 best overall. Rest fall into a consolation bracket (highest finish for them is #5)
6 - Half the teams, Division Winners + 4 at large. Rest in consolation bracket. #1 and #2 get byes.
8 - Best 8 overall (division winners, duh), other 4 in consolation.
4 feels stupid and limiting. I like 6 because it's exactly half, but 8 lets more players into the main bracket and doesn't give anyone a bye (consolation round would get a bye week, then #9 vs #12, etc).
I'd say 6, as if we go for 8 then the first 20 or so matches feel fairly unimportant as most people will go through. I also agree that four is too small, and it makes the consolation bracket too big. It also makes the opening matches more important as winning the division gets you a bye

Re: JBW Fantasy Baseball League
I'm playing with the system.... apparently 8 team playoff has no consolation bracket So, if we want everyone (since we have 12 teams exactly now) playing in some kind of post season play, 6 is a must. If we don't like the bottom 4, then 8 is fine too :p

Re: JBW Fantasy Baseball League
Since I'll probably miss the live draft, I've just gone through and picked a load of guys in pre-draft picks
I've never done this before, so generally how many pre draft guys do you generally need to pick for this? I've gone for 30 guys in the top 100 followed by nine more obscure picks. Will that be okay?

The CPU will kick in if your list runs out, so no real worries. Besides, we need to discuss the draft time anyway to maximize the number of live participants. I know Daffy won't be available and I worry about R(ob) being able to make it.

As the sole Brit, it's fine if I can't participate, as it would probably make it harder for those of you across the pond. I don't know much about MLB, so I'd slow it all down anyway

In all honesty, EVERYTHING is questionable for me right now. With the wife unit having some complications right now... were seven months in with the pregnancy so, if those complications get worse... we'll have a baby sooner rather than later so, yeah.

I posted this on the message board, but:
Yahoo! can randomize the draft order for us early, so if people would prefer, I can get yahoo! to do the draft order ahead of time so people can plan their draft around their pick number (snaking order, of course).

Sounds good, perhaps we can do this Sunday a good day for almost if not everyone to be online to do this.

It does it immediately--this wouldn't directly effect draft time, but everyone would know where they'd be drafting early.

How about March 23rd at 5 pm EST? That's 10 pm in England if my clock is correct. That's a Friday night.
